Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist expects the conflict to be long-lasting
STOCKHOLM, August 11. /tass/. Swedish Defense Minister Peter Hultqvist does not rule out that the kingdom will produce weapons for Ukraine.
"I don't rule it out, but it's too early to say. We are positively involved in all three areas [of assistance to Ukraine - military training, mine clearance and weapons production], but then we will see how things turn out," he said in an interview with SVT TV channel, commenting on the results of the Copenhagen - Ukraine - 2022 donor conference (#CopenhagenUkraine2022), which took place on Thursday in the Danish capital.
According to the Swedish minister, Slovakia, Poland and the Czech Republic have already stated that they can help Ukraine with the production of weapons.
"We are talking about using production lines in different countries to produce weapons that can be delivered directly to Ukraine," Hultqvist commented. "We expect that the conflict will be prolonged, and therefore we believe that the deliveries that have been carried out so far should be supplemented by direct production."
The donor conference "Copenhagen - Ukraine - 2022" (#CopenhagenUkraine2022) was held on Thursday in the Danish Parliament. Representatives of 26 countries took part in it. The organizers were the United Kingdom, Denmark and Ukraine. Donations of €1.5 billion were announced at the conference.
