The battalion of motorized infantry of the Northern Fleet, based in the Murmansk region and formed primarily from military personnel of the Arkhangelsk region, received the honorary name "Arkhangelsk", the press service of the government of the Arkhangelsk region reported.
In the Pechengsky district of the Murmansk region, a solemn ceremony of farewell to the servicemen of the coastal troops of the Northern Fleet, prepared to participate in a special military operation in Ukraine, was held.
"The commander of the Northern Fleet, Hero of Russia Admiral Alexander Moiseev and the Governor of the Arkhangelsk Region Alexander Tsybulsky addressed the personnel of the "Arkhangelsk" battalion, in which servicemen mainly serve from the Arkhangelsk region. They admonished the fighters and their commanders to valiantly fulfill their tasks and wished them military luck and victory," the message reads.
As Moiseev noted, today the people of Russia demonstrate to the whole world the ability to unite in difficult times, and within the framework of a special military operation in Ukraine, it is the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, including formations of coastal fleet troops, motorized infantry and marines, that solve the tasks of ensuring the safety of residents of the Luhansk and Donetsk People's Republics and Russia.
"I warmly welcome the initiatives of veterans of the Armed Forces and the public on the assignment of nominal titles to units that directly participate in their own. First of all, I thank you, the North Sea fighters, for this position. This is a unifying force that allows us to talk about success and victories in the tasks that we face today," Moiseev said, addressing the servicemen of the Arkhangelsk battalion of the 200th separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 14th Army Corps of the Northern Fleet.
He added that the main task of the state is to ensure the security of the Russian people. "Today it is you who are solving this task, providing a peaceful sky to your loved ones, your relatives, your fellow countrymen. I sincerely wish you victories, the realization of all the tasks that you face, and there is no doubt that it will be so," the fleet commander said.
The Governor of the Arkhangelsk region, who specially arrived at the place of permanent deployment of the battalion in the Pechengsky district of the Murmansk region, addressed the servicemen with words of gratitude for their readiness to fulfill their military duty with honor and valor. Tsybulsky said that in 1996, as a cadet of a military educational institution, he took the military oath.
"Many years have passed, life has turned out so that I am not serving in the Russian Armed Forces now, but I can say that that day was the most important in my life for me. This is something I will never give up: loyalty to my homeland, and willingness to go and fight for its freedom and independence, to help fraternal peoples. This is the duty that lives in every man. I am deeply convinced that you will cope with all the tasks facing the Russian army with valor and honor," the governor said.
Tsybulsky expressed confidence that the assignment of the honorary name "Arkhangelsk" to one of the battalions of motorized infantry of the Northern Fleet will allow servicemen to constantly feel the support of fellow countrymen, stand shoulder to shoulder with comrades during service, and promised to provide comprehensive support to servicemen.
The "Arkhangelsk" battalion is not only a geographical reference. This means that you will be under the protection and patronage of Archangel Michael, who in Russia has always been considered the patron saint of soldiers fighting for a just cause, people who defend their land, their home, their relatives," Tsybulsky added.
It is noted that the training of the "Arkhangelsk" battalion was conducted taking into account the experience gained by the servicemen of the Northern Fleet during a special military operation in the Donbass and Ukraine, as well as taking into account the specifics of the upcoming tasks.
In early July, the commander of the Northern Fleet supported the initiative of veterans of the Russian Armed Forces, put forward in the Arkhangelsk region, to assign an honorary name with a mention of the region to one of the fleet units. Admiral Moiseev noted that the military units manned by fellow countrymen have proven themselves well in solving various tasks, including during a special military operation in the Donbass and Ukraine, and promised to pick up one of the units of a separate motorized rifle brigade of the army corps of the Northern Fleet to give it an honorary name.
