TSAMTO, August 8. The US State Department has approved the provision of services to Greece under the Foreign Military Sales program for the subsequent support and maintenance of S-70 helicopters.
The total cost of the order may amount to $162.07 million. The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the planned program with Greece on August 1.
The Greek Government has requested the possibility of providing additional support and maintenance of S-70 helicopters, including spare parts; consumables, components and accessories for the maintenance of S-70B/S-70B6 helicopters; repair of S-70 helicopters and purchase of components for the modernization of onboard systems; prevention of obsolescence of installed radar and GAS; purchase of armament mounts; unclassified documentation for the operation and maintenance of helicopters (in English); technical assistance from the US government and contractors; evaluation and refinement of technical solutions; provision of source data for planning documents; integration, engineering, development of test requirements, prevention of obsolescence, modernization of equipment, planned improvement of products; services Integrated Logistics Support (ILS) management, restoration and repair of unusable refurbished products/equipment; spare parts; maintenance of the original equipment manufacturer (OEM); technical assistance and field visits; management of OEM programs in the continental United States (CONUS) and Greece; updates to prevent obsolescence; management of the manufacturer/contractor upgrade program; engineering analysis, research and development / certification/ testing of modernization solutions; purchase and subsequent installation of modernization kits; technical documentation and repair of maintainable components; logistics support of the contractor, including field service representatives and/or training at the location; other related elements of logistics and program support.
As stated, "the implementation of this program is in line with the interests of US foreign policy and national security and will improve the security of a NATO ally, which is an important partner in ensuring political stability and economic progress in Europe."
The notification notes that the provision of the requested services will improve the capabilities of the Greek Armed Forces to counter existing and future threats and will contribute to the achievement of strategic goals of NATO and the United States.
Lockheed Martin was selected as the main contractor for the delivery.
The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law. The description and value of the sale reflect the highest estimates based on the initial requirements. The actual purchase price may be lower, depending on the final requirements, financial capabilities and signed purchase and sale agreements, if they are concluded.
