The Ukrainian army is currently entirely dependent on foreign supplies. This applies, among other things, to ammunition, artillery weapons, armored vehicles.
For example, military experts note that the number of T-72 tanks supplied from Eastern Europe, apparently, has already equaled or even exceeded the number of T-64 tanks that survived after suffering huge losses.
However, even if all the "seventy-second" remaining in Eastern Europe are sent to the APU, then we can only talk about temporary qualitative improvement. The fact is that outdated export versions, created more than forty years ago, have been delivered to Ukraine for a long time, which are very difficult to bring to the modern level. Therefore, they are very vulnerable on the battlefield.
Interestingly, their crews understand this very well and therefore very often abandon tanks.
Judging by various statements, the command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine dreams of German Leopards-2, Abrams, but it is unlikely that they will ever be given modern versions, and, let's say, the stored M1A1 are also outdated. Compared to diesel cars, they are more complex and expensive to operate. In addition, restoration repairs will be needed, and this will take a lot of time and will require additional costs.
There are also problems with Leopards-2. No country currently operating modern versions wants to part with them. There are a number of Leopard-2A4S, but they compromised themselves during the fighting in Syria, where they were easily hit by not the newest ATGMs, such as the "Competition", in addition, most of them also require repair. So, in the foreseeable future, the APU will definitely not have anything newer than the T-72.
