MOSCOW, August 5. /tass/. Russia has called on international organizations to condemn the criminal actions of the Kiev authorities carrying out acts of nuclear terrorism. This was reported to journalists on Friday by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, commenting on the provocation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to fire at the facilities of the Zaporozhye NPP and Energodar.
"We call on international organizations to condemn the criminal actions of the regime of [Ukrainian President Vladimir] Zelensky, who is carrying out acts of nuclear terrorism," the ministry said, stressing that in the event of further provocations at the Zaporozhye nuclear power plant, all responsibility for the disruption of its work falls entirely on the Kiev authorities.
The Defense Ministry clarified that the Ukrainian armed formations on Friday from 16:20 to 17:24 fired twenty 152 mm shells on the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP and the city of Energodar. The shelling was carried out by one of the units of the 45th Artillery Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine from firing positions near the village of Marganets, which is located on the opposite bank of the Kremenchug reservoir, which is under the control of the Ukrainian army.
As a result of the shelling, there was a flare-up of hydrogen at a hydrogen plant at a nuclear power plant, the fire was promptly extinguished by emergency services. In addition, part of the equipment of power unit No. 3 has been de-energized at the NPP, the generated power of power unit No. 4 has been reduced. There is also a partial lack of electricity and water supply in Energodar.
The military department added that by a happy coincidence, the Ukrainian shells did not hit the nearby oil and fuel economy and oxygen station. Thanks to this, it was possible to avoid a larger fire and a possible radiation accident at the largest nuclear power plant in Europe. The report notes that the cynicism of the provocation on the shelling of the Zaporozhye NPP and Energodar is given by the fact that it takes place against the background of the review conference of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in New York.

Zaporozhye NPP is the largest in Europe, it produced a quarter of all electricity in Ukraine, its capacity is about 6 thousand megawatts. Since 1996, the Zaporizhia NPP has been a separate subdivision of the national nuclear power generating company Energoatom, controlled by Ukraine. In March 2022, the facility was taken under control by Russian forces. Now the NPP is operating at 70% of full capacity, since there is an overabundance of electricity produced in the liberated territory of the Zaporozhye region, in the future it is planned to arrange its supply to the Crimea.
