MADRID, August 5. /tass/. The Spanish Ministry of Defense has decided to transfer 20 M113 armored personnel carriers to Ukraine. This was reported on Friday by the newspaper El Pais.
The publication recalls that Madrid considered the possibility of transferring Leopard tanks to Kiev, but the Minister of Defense of the kingdom Margarita Robles ruled out such a scenario, because, according to her, combat vehicles are in poor condition. In addition, the possible transfer of the Spanish Leopard caused political troubles in Germany, which produces such tanks and has not yet delivered them to Kiev.
As a result, the Spanish Defense Ministry decided to send armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, the newspaper informed. Madrid also offered Kiev a battery of Shorad Aspide anti-aircraft guided missiles. According to the publication, Spain's new proposal does not satisfy the Ukrainian side.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to the request of the leaders of the republics of Donbass for help. After that, the West imposed large-scale sanctions against Moscow and increased arms supplies to Kiev for amounts estimated at this stage in billions of dollars.
