TSAMTO, July 29. The US State Department has approved the potential supply of F-35 fighter jets to Germany as part of the Foreign Military Sales program, as well as ammunition and related equipment.
The total value of the contract may amount to $8.4 billion. The DoD Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the planned sale on July 28.
The German government has asked the United States about the possibility of supplying 35 F-35A fighters in the conventional take-off and landing (CTOL) version, 37 Pratt & Whitney F-135-PW-100 engines (35 installed, 2 spare); 105 advanced air-to-air guided missiles of the AIM class-120C-8 AMRAAM; 4 AIM-120C-8 AMRAAM control sections; 75 AGM-158B/2B extended-range cruise missiles (JASSM ER); 2 AGM-158 JASSM with an inert warhead and sets of instrumentation; 2 AGM-158 JASSM test missiles for separation tests from carrier (STV); 344 GBU-53 small diameter bombs (SDB-II); 3 GBU-53 SDB-II test bombs (GTV); 8 GBU-53 SDB-II test samples for transport without separation (CCRT); 162 2000-pound BLU-109 penetrating bombs for GBU UAB-31; 264 units of 500-pound MK-82 free-falling bombs for GBU-54 UAB; 6 inert MK-82 bombs; 30 inert penetrating 2000-pound BLU-109 bombs; 180 KMU-557 JDAM guidance kits for GBU-31 UAB; 246 KMU-557 JDAM guidance kits for GBU UAB-54; 75 guided missiles AIM-9X Block-2 "Sidewinder", 30 training aircraft missiles AIM-9X Block.2 "Sidewinder" CATM (Captive Air Training Missiles), 15 tactical missile guidance units AIM-9X Block-2; 5 guidance units for AIM-9X Block.2 CATM.
The request also includes AIM-120 control sections, engine sections, telemetry systems, combat units and containers; AIM-120 CATM training missiles; active optical target detectors and AIM-9 containers; FMU-139 fuses; DSU-38 laser target illumination detection devices for GBU-54 LJDAM; simple key loaders AN/PYQ-10; built-in equipment for reprogramming conventional ammunition (CMBRE); ADU-891/E adapters for CMBRE; built-in KGV-135A encryption devices, CAD/PAD pyrotechnic devices for ejection seats; pulse cartridges, IR traps and corner reflectors; simulators (Full Mission Simulator) and system simulators; training missiles and components; electronic warfare systems and Reprogramming Laboratory support; logistics management and support systems; threat detection, tracking and targeting systems; contractor Logistics support (CLS); secret software; software development, delivery and integration support; delivery, distillation; refueling support; weapons containers; aircraft support and ammunition; auxiliary equipment; integration, test support and equipment; support for the Aircraft Engine Component Improvement Program (CIP); secure communications, precision navigation, cryptographic systems and equipment; identification equipment "friend-foe"; spare parts and assemblies; consumables and accessories, repair and return support; introduction minor modifications; maintenance and maintenance support; personnel training and training equipment; secret and unclassified technical documentation; warranty provision; engineering, technical and logistical support from the US government and the contractor, as well as other related logistics and support elements of the program.
As stated, the implementation of this program is in line with the interests of US foreign policy and national security and will improve the security of a NATO ally.
The notification notes that the sale of fighter jets will expand Germany's capabilities to counter existing and future threats by providing a replacement for Tornado aircraft being decommissioned in support of NATO operations on the joint use of nuclear weapons. At the same time, the German Armed Forces will not experience difficulties when adopting new aircraft.
Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Pratt & Whitney Military Engines, Boeing, Raytheon Missiles and Defense were selected as the main contractors of the program. The customer usually requests compensation. The terms of any compensation agreement will be determined during negotiations between the buyer and the contractor.
The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law. The description and value of the sale reflect the highest estimates based on the initial requirements. The actual purchase price may be lower, depending on the final requirements, financial capabilities and conditions of the signed purchase and sale agreements, if they are concluded.
