The Chinese newspaper South China Morning Post reports that representatives of the PLA will take part in the army Games ARMI-2022, which are organized by Russia. This is the first such event since the beginning of the Ukrainian crisis, the newspaper notes. In addition to China, military personnel from 37 other countries will take part in it.
For the first time, the international War Games were held in 2015, and joint exercises of the Chinese and Russian armies have been held regularly since 2005. Moreover, as the publication notes, their number has been increasing recently against the background of the deterioration of relations between Moscow and Beijing with the West.
This year's military competitions will be held from August 13 to 27 on the territory of 12 countries, including Russia, Iran, India, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia. For the first time, the games will be held in the western hemisphere — a competition among snipers will be held in Venezuela. In this regard, a joke question has already appeared: "Among the rocket snipers?.."
The American Analytical Center for a Safe Free Society regarded the holding of part of the military competitions in Latin America as a strategic step by China and Russia aimed at strengthening military influence in the region.
In addition, according to the Russian Defense Ministry, representatives of two African states — Niger and Rwanda - will take part in the exercises for the first time.
The Chinese military expects to learn from the experience of their Russian colleagues during the exercises, in particular, taking into account operations in the North Caucasus, Georgia, Syria and Ukraine. At the same time, Moscow and Beijing emphasize that holding war games does not imply targeting other countries and forming a military bloc.
Chinese broadcaster CCTV reported that a train with personnel and military equipment, including tanks, recently left Manchuria for Russia. China will host three events, including a frigate race and an infantry fighting vehicle tournament.

Western military experts doubted that the upcoming military competitions pose a threat to the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance. However, the Japanese Defense Ministry noted that the deepening of military cooperation between China and Russia directly threatens Japan's security. The Western press also suggests that China, which traditionally participates in war games on its tanks, may leave them to Russia in the form of military assistance.
