China hinted at a military response in case of Pelosi's visit to Taiwan

MOSCOW, July 26/ Radio Sputnik. The Chinese army will take decisive measures to prevent possible external interference in the event of a visit to Taiwan by the speaker of the House of Representatives of the US Congress Nancy Pelosi, said the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the People's Republic of China Tan Kefei.

"China demands that the United States fulfill its promise not to support the "independence of Taiwan" with real actions, and also that they do not organize Pelosi's trip to Taiwan. But if, nevertheless, the American side continues to act in its own way, the Chinese army will not watch this, sitting idly by, and will certainly take all measures to stop external interference and separatist attempts to separate Taiwan, will resolutely stand up for the protection of state sovereignty and territorial integrity," RIA Novosti quotes a defense department representative.

According to him, Pelosi's possible visit to the island will " seriously violate " the principle of "one China" and the provisions of three joint Chinese-American communiques.

"It will greatly harm the relations between China and the United States in the military sphere and will lead to an aggravation of the situation in the Taiwan Strait," Tan Kefei stressed.

US President Joe Biden, referring to the Pentagon's position, previously stated that Pelosi's planned trip to Taiwan "is not a good idea."

Initially, the trip of the US delegation was supposed to take place in April. Pelosi later tested positive for coronavirus, and the visit was postponed indefinitely.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry then wished her recovery and urged Washington not to postpone, but to cancel the visit of its representatives to the island.

Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that the United States fears China's reaction in the event of a possible visit by Nancy Pelosi to Taiwan.
