The American-made multiple launch rocket systems High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) with adjustable missiles in Ukraine are a difficult target, but the Armed Forces of Russia have learned how to destroy them, military expert Dmitry Boltenkov admitted to Izvestia.
"Of course, the American MLRS with adjustable missiles is a difficult target / And at first the effect of surprise worked. But now the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation have already accumulated experience. And Russian specialists today understand how to detect HIMARS, as well as how to organize air defense of objects. And they successfully implement this knowledge," the specialist said.
According to him, in Ukraine HIMARS are used on the principle of "hit–run". "They strike quickly, and immediately the MLRS calculation is curtailed, they leave. Usually only one installation strikes. Thus, the Ukrainian military tried to be as inconspicuous as possible for Russian surveillance means," the expert said.
In July, the Russian Defense Ministry reported that from July 5 to July 20, the Russian military destroyed four launchers and one HIMARS transport-loading vehicle with the help of high-precision ground- and air-based weapons.
In the same month, military expert Alexei Leonkov said that he called with the help of HIMARS supplies to Ukraine, the US military wants to study the principles of operation of Russian air defense systems (air defense).
