TSAMTO, July 18. The US State Department has approved the potential supply of multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) M142 HIMARS to Estonia as part of the Foreign Military Sales program, as well as related equipment.
The total cost of the order may amount to $ 500 million. The DoD Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the planned sale on July 15.
The Estonian government has asked the US leadership about the possibility of selling: up to 6 MLRS M142 HIMARS (High Mobility Artillery Rocket System) launchers; up to 36 containers with M30A2 GMLRS guided missiles with an alternative warhead, a low-sensitivity power plant (IMPS) and a non-contact radar fuse with a set detonation height; up to 36 containers with M31A2 GMLRS with a unitary high-explosive fragmentation warhead and IMPS; up to 36 containers with controlled extended-range XM403 (ER GMLRS) with an alternative warhead (AW), IMPS and a side proximity fuse (SMPS); up to 36 containers with controlled extended-range XM404 (ER GMLRS) with a unitary combat part (AW), IMPS and a side proximity fuse; up to 18 containers with M57 tactical missiles (ATACMS).
The request also includes containers with low-cost M28A2 reduced-range training ammunition (LCRRPR); secure laptops; training equipment; technical documentation for HIMARS and ammunition/missiles, as well as other related items of material support and program support.
As stated, the implementation of this program is in line with the interests of US foreign policy and national security, as it will increase the security of an important NATO ally. The sale is consistent with US initiatives to provide key allies in the region with modern systems that will increase interoperability with the US Armed Forces.
As stated in the notification, the sale of the requested equipment will contribute to the achievement of Estonia's military goals to upgrade the country's armed Forces while increasing interoperability with the Armed Forces of the United States and other allies. Estonia intends to use equipment and services to modernize its armed forces, strengthen its defense capability and deter regional threats. It is noted that the Estonian Armed Forces will not experience difficulties when adopting installations.
Lockheed Martin has been selected as the main contractor for the delivery program.
The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law. The description and value of the sale reflect the highest estimates based on the initial requirements. The actual purchase price may be lower, depending on the final requirements, financial capabilities and signed purchase and sale agreements, if they are concluded.
