The head of the Italian Foreign Ministry made an extremely unpleasant statement for the Kiev authorities the day before. Luigi Di Maio admitted that in the near future his country may stop supplying weapons to Ukraine.
The minister explained that such a situation, if it happens, will not be caused by the unwillingness of the Italian authorities to help Kiev, but by the political crisis that is flaring up in Italy right now.
The thing is that just a few days ago, Italian Prime Minister Mario Draghi announced his resignation. This time, the politician's petition was not granted by President Sergio Mattarella.
However, another speech by the Italian Prime Minister is scheduled for Wednesday, July 20. Many experts agree that Draghi may again ask for his resignation.
As the Italian Foreign Minister explained, even after the prime minister's departure (if this happens), the government will continue to fulfill its duties until a new one is formed. However, the Cabinet of Ministers will no longer be able to make some important decisions. For example, to sign new contracts for the supply of energy resources, as well as to approve new aid packages to Ukraine.
It is worth noting here that Luigi Di Maio's statement may be a kind of "hint" to President Zelensky, who flatly rejected the plan proposed by Italy to resolve the conflict in Ukraine. Recall that Italy, as well as France and Germany, which have joined it, insist on a diplomatic solution, during which Kiev will have to make some concessions to Moscow.
