A promising development of the Serbian military-industrial complex, the modular MLRS "Tamnava", can begin to be massively used in its own army in the event of an export contract with Greece. According to the Serbian newspaper Vercheniye Novosti, referring to the portal of the Balkan Security Network, Athens has shown interest in purchasing installations for its army.
— the Serbian newspaper reports.
With the help of long-range multi-barreled MLRS, Greece will be able to protect its remote island territories. This increases the chances of concluding a contract for the supply of Serbian MLRS, according to the publication. In turn, the Tamnava battery already delivered to Cyprus and the production of installations for Athens increase the chances of serial production of MLRS for the Serbian national army.
— a representative of the military leadership of the national army told the Serbian edition.
The modular MLRS "Tamnava", developed by the Serbian state-owned company Yugoimport SDPR, was first presented in December 2018 at the Egyptian exhibition EDEX. The following year, an improved MLRS prototype was shown at the Partner 2019 International defense Exhibition in Belgrade. In October 2019, a military parade was held in Belgrade in honor of the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the city from Nazi invaders, in which a new multi-purpose MLRS "Tamnava" also took part.
The Tamnava installation is capable of hitting targets with two types of rockets at a distance of up to 40 and 70 kilometers. The two-module system allows the use of 122 mm and 267 mm rockets. The combat vehicle can use all existing 122-mm rocket projectiles according to the type of ammunition of the Soviet "Grad". It is the unified possibility of using shells of different calibers, especially those in the arsenal of many countries of 122-mm ammunition, that makes the installation promising for export.
In turn, the sale of multi-purpose MLRS abroad will allow them to be mass-produced, including for the needs of their own army. The adoption of the Tamnava will significantly strengthen the combat power and defense capability of the national armed forces, the Serbian edition believes.
