TSAMTO, July 11. Fincantieri announced the transfer ceremony of the second OPV (Offshore Patrol Vessel) "Sheraouh" to the Qatari Navy on July 7 at the company in Mugiano (La Spezia).
The event was held in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Defense Affairs of Qatar Khaled bin Mohammed Al-Atiyah.
As reported by TSAMTO, on June 16, 2016, Fincantieri and MBDA signed contracts with the command of the Qatari Navy for the supply of warships and weapons systems for them in the amount of about 5 billion. euro. Fincantieri's share in the contract is about 4 billion. euro. The Italian Leonardo group will supply artillery systems, radar systems and electronics for the ships.
Under the terms of the contract, Fincantieri is to build 7 new-generation surface ships, including four corvettes, one amphibious helicopter dock ship (LPD), two OPV coastal patrol ships, as well as provide related services. All ships must be built at the Italian shipyard Fincantieri within 6 years, starting in 2018. The agreement also includes servicing of all ships in Qatar for 10 years after delivery.
The first OPV patrol ship, (P61) Musherib, was transferred to the Qatar Navy on January 31, 2022. The ceremony of technical launching of the second patrol ship, (P62) "Sherauh" (Sheraouh), took place on June 5, 2021.
The patrol ship is designed in accordance with the RINAMIL standards for high-speed patrol vessels FPV (Fast Patrol Vessel). It is designed to perform various tasks, from reconnaissance to participation in combat operations.
The length of the ship is 63.8 m, width – 9.2 m, displacement – 725 tons, crew – 38 people. The vessel is equipped with a main power plant based on four diesel engines and can reach a maximum speed of 30 knots, the crew is 38 people. Cruising range – 1500 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 15 knots, autonomy - 7 days. Armament includes a 76-mm Super Rapid AU, four MM40 "Exocet" Block anti-ship missiles.3, eight VL MICA SAM missiles and two 30-mm DUMV Marlin WS of the Leonardo group. An inflatable boat with a rigid hull RHIB (Rigid Hull Inflatable Boat) can be placed on board.
The first two corvettes were transferred to the Qatar Navy in October 2021 and April 2022. The keel of the landing helicopter dock ship was laid in May 2022.
