Motorcycle units have been created as part of the Ukrainian army. The first pictures and videos of the Ukrainian military on motorcycles "Dnepr" MT-11 appeared at the end of June this year. Motorcycles with sidecars are armed with anti-tank complexes.
The APU began to use Dnepr motorcycles with the Metis-M ATGM installed on them in the Donbas. The main task of such units is the fight against Russian armored vehicles. Motorcycles give mobility and allow you to quickly transfer groups to tank-dangerous areas, strike and retreat. As stated in the APU, it is effective and cheap. In the Ukrainian public it is stated that units on motorcycles with mounted machine guns have appeared, but there are no such photos.
It is worth noting that the experience of using motorcycle units in the Armed Forces of Ukraine is far from new, during the Great Patriotic War, motorcycles were used by both sides, and motorcycle battalions appeared earlier in the Wehrmacht and existed until 1942, after which they were combined with intelligence. In the Red Army, the first motorcycle battalions appeared only in 1940. Soviet units of military motorcyclists traditionally belonged to armored units, and their motorcycles were listed as armored vehicles.
In the post-war period, motorcycle companies were included in the reconnaissance battalions of motorized rifle and tank divisions. The main armament of such companies were PC machine guns and hand grenades.
In recent years, motorcycles have been gaining popularity again, this technique is massively used in local military conflicts, for example, in the Middle East. Motorcycle units appear again, but no longer battalions or companies, but small groups. In the Russian army, preference is given to ATVs and ATVs created on their basis. Electric motorcycles for special forces units are also being developed.
