Canada has confirmed plans to send LAV II CSV Super Bison armored personnel carriers to Ukraine. This was stated by the Minister of Defense of the country Anita Anand during a visit to the company General Dynamics Land Systems-Canada, which is the manufacturer of this APC.
The head of the Canadian Defense Department confirmed the previously announced information about the supply of 39 LAV II CSV Super Bison armored personnel carriers to the Ukrainian army. According to her, the equipment will arrive in Ukraine "this summer", she did not name the exact dates. Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau made a statement regarding armored vehicles for Kiev. In addition to the armored personnel carriers themselves, Kiev will also receive spare parts for them. Canada will also train Ukrainian servicemen in the use of armored vehicles, where it will take place, there is no information yet.
The LAV II ACSV (Armored Combat Support Vehicle) is a new armored infantry support vehicle, production of which began in 2020. In total, the Canadian Army has ordered 360 units of the LAV II ACSV, production is still underway. The vehicle has mine protection and is armed with a 25 mm automatic cannon. It is available in variants of a command vehicle, a vehicle for transporting infantry and cargo, and a field ambulance. ACSV replaced the current fleet of tracked M113 light armored vehicles and LAV II Bison 8x8 armored personnel carriers, which are currently in service with the Canadian Army.
The armored personnel carriers planned for delivery to Ukraine were originally intended for the Canadian army, but the Canadian Ministry of Defense decided to transfer them to Ukrainians, as they "need them more."
Canada is confident that the supplied armored personnel carriers will help the Ukrainian army to fight against the "occupation forces" of Russia. So in Ottawa, after Kiev, they call the Russian troops participating in a special military operation in Ukraine.
