Jerusalem. July 5. INTERFAX - Iran's military is currently more active in the Red Sea than at any time in a decade, Israeli Defense Minister Benny Gantz said on Tuesday.
"In recent months, we have registered the most significant presence of Iran in this zone in a decade. This is a direct threat to international trade, energy supplies and the global economy," the Times of Israel quoted the minister as saying during a meeting with colleagues from Greece and Cyprus.
"Today we can confirm that Iran is systematically present in the Red Sea, its warships patrol the southern region," the minister explained.
At the same time, he demonstrated satellite images of an Iranian frigate, a landing ship and two auxiliary vessels.
In addition, Ganz warned that the launch vehicle tested by Iran at the end of June, designed to put satellites into orbit, may also be equipped with a warhead.
"This test demonstrates that the Iranian regime has the ability to create intercontinental ballistic missiles that can reach the center of Europe," the minister said.
