The Slovak government has decided to purchase 152 tracked infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) CV90 Mk IV. Swedish-made vehicles will replace the BVP-1 and BVP-2, which are copies of the Soviet BMP-1 and BMP-2. This is reported by the Government of Slovakia, [...] European Defense Review reports.
It is noted that the authorities approved the proposal of the Ministry of Defense to purchase 152 CV90 Mk IV tracked infantry fighting vehicles with a Bushmaster III 35 mm automatic cannon. These vehicles will gradually replace the outdated equipment of the Slovak military. Promising wheeled and tracked vehicles will make it possible to form a heavy mechanized brigade.
Also, within the framework of the competition in Slovakia, CV9030 infantry fighting vehicles with a 30 mm cannon, KF41 Lynx, Borsuk and ASCOD infantry fighting vehicles were considered. The estimated cost of machines and infrastructure for their operation will be 1.6 billion euros.
Serial production of the CV90 BMP began in 1993. The car received a diesel engine with a capacity of 550 horsepower. The Mk IV version is equipped with a Scania engine with a capacity of up to 1000 horsepower and an upgraded X300 transmission.
In March, it became known that the Slovak government had chosen a new wheeled infantry fighting vehicle as part of the BOV 8x8 program. The Finnish car Patria AMVXP became the favorite of the tests.
