Watching the sky, you can notice the enemy helicopter a few kilometers from the position. And even a small drone will not escape the observer's eye either. It is not difficult to hit one or another goal — there are all the means for this. But it is much more effective and safer to detect the enemy long before he approaches a dangerous distance.
Accurate and timely operation of air defense systems is the key to the air safety of the troops they cover. And it is equally important to know in advance where the threat may come from. The eyes and ears of any modern anti—aircraft missile system are a radar complex for long-range reconnaissance of target detection.
The monitor shows targets at a distance of up to 500 km. And as soon as the target is taken for escort, she immediately receives a request "friend or foe". As soon as the identity of the target is established, a decision is made: skip or destroy the object.
The complex is mobile, and for security purposes it moves all the time. The calculation can change the dislocation several times a day.
The radar complex is well camouflaged. You can notice it only at a distance of several tens of meters. But from here there is an excellent radio view for hundreds of kilometers. Specialists of the Western Military District are watching the sky around the clock. The number of targets simultaneously in the air can reach several dozen.
"When detecting various means of a possible enemy, this station issues data to a higher command post, and he makes the appropriate decision," the head of the calculation of the Emran radar complex told reporters.
The collected data from all radar complexes form a general picture of the sky. This allows you to quickly make decisions on goals. Many of them require careful attention to themselves. The most common target is drones.
When the target is taken for escort, the task of destruction from the command post goes to one or another air defense division. In this case, the sky over the Russian military is controlled by the Buk-M3 complexes. It takes less than a minute from detection to salvo. The target was shot down on approach — a few dozen kilometers from the launch point.
On the eve of the Russian Defense Ministry published footage of the work of Mi-8 helicopter crews with electronic warfare systems installed on board. Electronic warfare systems are used at the maximum altitude.
Russia continues the special operation to protect Donbass, which President Vladimir Putin announced on February 24. A few days earlier, the situation in the region significantly worsened due to shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Lugansk People's Republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and also appealed to Moscow for help. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and the LPR.
