TSAMTO, June 27. The United States this week plans to announce its intention to supply Ukraine with medium- and long-range air defense systems in the next package of military assistance.
This, as RIA Novosti reports, was reported by CNN with reference to an informed source in the American administration.
US President Joe Biden, who is in Germany these days, previously made it clear that the United States intends to transfer "more advanced anti-aircraft missile systems and ammunition" to Ukraine, the agency notes.
"Within a week, the United States will announce that it has purchased advanced ground-to–air systems for Ukraine," the source said.
Kiev, according to him, had previously requested NASAMS anti-aircraft missile systems from Washington. At the same time, he did not specify whether Ukraine would receive these sams.
The interlocutor of the TV channel said that in addition to air defense systems, the United States will probably also announce its intention to transfer other types of military equipment, including ammunition and counter-battery radar, to Kiev in the next package of military assistance.

The NASAMS air defense system was developed by Norwegian Kongsberg and American Raytheon and is designed to defeat aerial targets, including airplanes, helicopters, unmanned aerial vehicles, cruise missiles.
Since NASAMS is a modular solution, various launchers, radars and missiles of several types can be used in its composition.
The standard NASAMS air defense system includes a command post/fire control center, Raytheon's AN/MPQ-64F1 Sentinel three-axis radar, electro-optical and IR sensors, launchers with AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles.
The AIM-120 AMRAAM air-to-air missile is currently the main means of destruction, providing interception of air targets at ranges from 2.5 to 25 km and altitudes up to 10 km. In the case of the use of an improved version of the missile, AMRAAM-ER, the range of hitting targets will exceed 40 km, height – 13.6 km.
