After the start of the special operation of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, there has been a steady increase in the number of volunteers who have expressed a desire to contribute to the defeat of the enemy. The leadership of a number of regions actively participates in this movement, helping volunteers to create separate combat formations on the principle of fraternity.
For example, with the support of the head of the Republic of North Ossetia Sergey Menyailo, the Alania detachment operates in the south of Ukraine. The growth in the number of its ranks led to the need to create its own tank unit. As a result, a battalion was formed equipped with T-62M vehicles, which were recently removed from storage and transferred to the theater of military operations from Russia.
Unlike the more modern T-72 and T-80 tanks, the T-62M is relatively easy to operate and does not require much time for the development of equipment by personnel. Given the specifics of the military campaign, the newly created battalion is unlikely to take part in tank battles, but the vehicles attached to it can effectively prove themselves as a means of supporting infantry or as self-propelled assault guns when taking fortified enemy positions. Unlike towed guns, the use of T-62M in these roles will ensure high maneuverability of volunteer forces.
