During the visit of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni to the main Ugandan Air Force base in Entebbe on June 16, 2022, the first Russian-made Mi-28NE combat helicopters received by the Ugandan Air Force were demonstrated. On the video and photographic materials from Entebbe, three Mi-28NE helicopters can be counted, there are no side numbers on them, but the identification marks of the Ugandan Air Force are applied on the tail. Earlier, deliveries of combat helicopters of this type to Uganda were not reported.

During his visit to Entebbe, President Museveni expressed gratitude to the personnel of the Ugandan Air Force for their active and successful participation in Operation Shuja - the joint military operations of the armed forces of Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in the eastern part of the DRC against the rebels from the Islamist armed group Alliance of Democratic Forces (ADF, in recent years, conducted since November 2021 declares its ties with the Islamic State and since 2020 has positioned itself as the "Central African province of the Islamic State", the group has committed a number of terrorist attacks in Uganda). It is unclear whether the demonstrated Mi-28NE helicopters took part in Operation Shuja.
Uganda thus became the third foreign recipient of the Mi-28NE helicopter after Iraq and Algeria.
