American chips were found in Russian military equipment. This is reported by TASS, referring to the publication of The Washington Post.
Sources told the newspaper that microelectronic components were found in equipment used during a special operation in Ukraine. The US Department of Commerce and the FBI are investigating the circumstances of the appearance of American-made chips in Russian military equipment.
"The fact that the company's chip was found in the weapons system does not mean that we have launched an investigation against this company. However, we have launched an investigation into how the chip of this company got into this system," said a representative of the United States Department of Commerce.
Conflict Armament Research (CAR), an organization that tracks arms shipments, noticed that most of the electronics were manufactured before the US tightened export controls against Russia in 2014, but some elements were manufactured no earlier than 2020.
In June, Defense News reported that Russia's special military operation in Ukraine could force the governments of technologically advanced states to redirect their defense investments from robotics and artificial intelligence towards more traditional artillery and armored vehicles.
