NASA's Hubble Space Telescope has captured thousands of galaxies in a new image in ultraviolet light. This is reported by Phys.org.
During the CANDELS project (Cosmic Assembly Near-infrared Deep Extragalactic Legacy Survey, "deep space extragalactic survey in the near infrared range"), scientists at the California Institute of Technology explored the sky in the ultraviolet spectrum. In addition, Hubble used infrared light and other spectra that had been used before. This technology made it possible to consider distant galaxies.
In the resulting images, it is possible to see galaxies of various shapes: oval, oblong, in the form of disks or spirals. According to experts, the ultraviolet study turned out to be the largest to date. In total, within the framework of CANDELS, scientists have photographed about 140 thousand galaxies.
Earlier, an international team of researchers published the largest infrared image ever captured by the Hubble telescope.
