TSAMTO, June 14. The acceleration section of the newest Sarmat ICBM is one and a half times shorter than that of the Voivode. This, as RIA Novosti reports, was announced by the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces, Colonel-General Sergei Karakaev, on the air of the Rossiya 24 TV channel.
He explained that the shorter the active section of the trajectory and the separation of the combat units with the achievement of the required speed, the better the protection of the missile complex from missile defense systems.
"To date, the active part of the trajectory of the new missile system is one and a half times lower than it was, for example, at the Voevoda missile complex," the commander said.
S.Karakayev noted that the Sarmat was created to be equipped with Avangard hypersonic combat units, which can reach speeds of up to 28M.
"As for the Sarmat, it is a different missile system. It is based on a carrier, it is much more powerful than the carrier of the "Avant-Garde". And it was created, among other things, for the combat equipment of the Avangard, taking into account the fact that there may be more of them on this complex," S.Karakayev said.
In turn, Vladimir Degtyar, the general designer of the Makeeva GRC, stressed that the Sarmat ICBM will use the same mines as the Voevoda.
"Sarmat" and "Voivode" coincide only in geometric characteristics – this is the length and diameter, so "Sarmat" and "Voivode" will be in the same mines," V. Degtyar said.
As the agency reminds, the first launch of the Sarmat took place at the end of April. The new missile is designed to replace the Voevoda missiles currently in service. In the Uzhursky missile compound in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, the main missile regiment is already being prepared for rearmament.
As stated in the Ministry of Defense, the Sarmat is the most powerful missile with the largest target range in the world. It is capable of reliably overcoming any existing and prospective missile defense systems and will significantly strengthen the combat power of Russia's strategic nuclear forces.
