TSAMTO, June 14. Official Madrid has apologized to the German government "for the excessive excitement" caused by the news about the possible dispatch by Spain of German Leopard A4 tanks to Ukraine.
This, as RIA Novosti reports, was reported by Business Insider.
According to the publication, such a decision could create a real precedent, since these would be the first NATO tanks that Western countries would donate to the Armed Forces.
"Spanish officials have apologized to the German government for the fact that the news created additional pressure and added cause for concern to the German Chancellor," the publication says.
The article also notes that the equipment purchased for the SV of Spain in Germany in 1990 is likely to be in a faulty condition and in need of repair. In addition, the clauses in the Spanish-German contract provide for its transfer to third countries strictly with the permission of the German government.
Earlier, the Spanish newspaper El Pais, citing its sources, reported that Madrid plans to send heavy weapons to help Kiev, including German Leopard A4 tanks. At the same time, the Spanish Ministry of Defense is already completing the delivery of a battery of Shorad Aspide short-range anti-aircraft missiles.
Later, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles said that support for Ukraine would be carried out within the capabilities and in coordination with the allied countries. At the same time, she did not name specific types of weapons, referring to the confidentiality of information, RIA Novosti notes.
