MOSCOW, June 13 — RIA Novosti. Specialists of the Combined Arms Academy of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation of the Order of Zhukov have developed a project of an amphibious buggy - a six—wheeled all-terrain vehicle designed to move through difficult terrain, including on water, and conduct battles as part of tactical groups, follows from a document published on the website Rospatent.

According to the abstract of the invention, the mass of an all—terrain vehicle with a 6 × 6 wheel formula is 1.2 tons, the speed is 120 kilometers per hour on land and 12 km/ h on water. In the rear part of the body of the machine, a submersible water–moving screw is provided, and the wheels are made with the possibility of installing tracks on them to move through the spring thaw and mud or skis - in the snow.

Military scientists justify the feasibility of creating such a buggy by referring to the difficulties of using existing models of such equipment in combat.

"Based on the experience of conducting combat operations of units of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, this equipment will be noticeable to the enemy due to its large overall dimensions, is not air transportable (in a helicopter), is less mobile and in case of low-speed maneuvering it will be destroyed. With a single entrance, the personnel, upon detection of this vehicle, will not have time to dismount or leave the vehicle and will be destroyed," the document says.

In addition, with an average speed of 90 km/h of ATVs currently in service with the Russian army during combat, this vehicle will constantly drive at the "peak of capabilities", which will affect both the resource of its components and aggregates, and low fuel economy, which will lead to a decrease in the power reserve of the platform.

According to the specialists of the military academy, these shortcomings will be eliminated in the new buggy: it will have a lower specific pressure on the support base (snow), increased cross-country ability and waterworthiness, and the selected and calculated motor-transmission layout with the chassis will give a gain in speed, controllability and power reserve.

"Thus, the use of an all—terrain transport platform will increase the mobility of tactical military formations of units of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation by increasing the patency of the equipment used in combat missions," the abstract of the invention notes.
