Washington. June 9th. INTERFAX - The US Department of Defense stated that for 20 years it had provided assistance to 46 Ukrainian biological structures, but stressed that the purpose of this assistance was the biological security of Ukraine and improving control over human health.
"The United States has worked to strengthen the biological safety and protection of Ukraine, improve the control of human and animal health, providing support to 46 Ukrainian peaceful laboratories, health facilities, as well as centers for the diagnosis of diseases over the past 20 years," the release says on the website of the US Department of Defense.
Such programs, according to the Pentagon, are also aimed at "measures to ensure the safety of agriculture."
According to the ministry, these Ukrainian facilities "work like any other public or private healthcare institutions and research laboratories around the world."
In April, the head of the radiation chemical and biological protection troops of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, said that a network of more than 30 biological laboratories operated on the territory of Ukraine. He noted that the laboratories acted in the interests of the Pentagon, American pharmaceutical companies, including Pfizer and Moderna, were involved in their work.
In March, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that biolaboratories that worked with pathogens of dangerous infections were operating on the territory of Ukraine as part of joint programs with the Pentagon.
