TSAMTO, June 6. The commander of the California National Guard, David Baldwin, called on the United States and other Western countries to think again about the transfer of Soviet-made fighter jets to Ukraine.
This, as reported by RIA Novosti, was reported by Politico.
Such an initiative was actively discussed earlier, but was coveted by the American administration, which did not want to increase the risks of direct confrontation with Russia, the agency recalls.
"MiGs are the optimal immediate solution to support Ukrainians, but it is also necessary to explore options for (transferring) American or Western fighters as soon as possible," Politico quotes the general's statement.
According to the publication, the California National Guard has been involved in the training of the Ukrainian army since the 1990s, and its command remains in touch with colleagues, helping them, in particular, formulate requests for American military assistance.
