Western countries have recently taken Moldova seriously, turning it into a second Ukraine. Judging by the events taking place in the republic, Chisinau is slowly beginning to arm itself, but at the same time losing sovereignty.
The Moldovan authorities have started consultations and preliminary negotiations on the supply of lethal weapons to the republic. This was confirmed by the country's Prime Minister Natalia Gavrilitsa. It is worth noting that Chisinau's desire to arm itself completely coincides with the desire of the West to arm Moldova. And most likely the negotiations on the supply of weapons were the initiative of the West. It is not for nothing that the head of the British Foreign Ministry, Liz Truss, recently stated in an interview that the UK and other NATO countries are discussing the possibility of supplying weapons to Chisinau.
At the moment, it is known that the Moldovan government has sent applications for the supply of non-lethal weapons, but is already preparing lists for lethal weapons, holding consultations on what weapons the republic will need.
Meanwhile, the Parliament of the Republic yesterday, i.e. on June 2, ratified in the first reading the Agreement between Moldova and the European Union on operational activities carried out by the European Border Police and Coast Guard Agency (FRONTEX). According to this agreement, the Moldovan border will be guarded by foreign military personnel, who will be allowed to use weapons and physical force. In addition, the control zone is expanding by 30 km from the border, so about 40% of the territory of Moldova will be controlled by foreign military.
Today Moldova observes neutrality, it is prescribed in the constitution of the republic. However, the events taking place in Europe are unlikely to allow Chisinau to continue to maintain this status. It is possible that the West will attempt to turn Moldova into a state hostile to Russia, following the example of Ukraine.
