Announced in early May by the Danish government, the delivery of Piranha III armored personnel carriers to Ukraine has begun, the equipment has been spotted on the territory of Poland. This is reported by Polish and Ukrainian resources.
As previously reported, the Danish Defense Ministry planned to send 25 Piranha III armored personnel carriers to Ukraine, which are being decommissioned by the Danish army, as the Danes are re-equipping with a more modern version of this Piranha V armored personnel carrier developed by the Swiss company Mowag, owned by American General Dynamics.
Judging by the incoming reports, the delivery of armored personnel carriers has already begun, they have been transported to Poland, from where the armored personnel carriers will be moved across the border of Ukraine. As reported, the armored personnel carriers are transferred without weapons, they lack remotely controlled combat modules equipped with large-caliber 12.7-mm machine guns. It is possible that some weapons are coming with them, but nothing is reported about this.
These Piranha III armored personnel carriers have a combat weight of 18.5 tons, there is no ability to overcome water obstacles by swimming. The engine power is 400 hp. The maximum speed on the highway is 100 km/h. The crew is three people, the landing party is eight servicemen.
In addition to Piranha III armored personnel carriers, Denmark should supply Kiev with American M113 G3 DK armored personnel carriers, removed from storage, in the amount of 50 pieces. While there is no information about their delivery, perhaps they will go in the next batch. Also, the APU has already received or should receive heavy M10 mortars with shells for them.
It should be noted that recently a rather difficult situation has been developing in the Ukrainian army with armored vehicles supplied by Western countries. The thing is that samples of equipment from different manufacturers are supplied, little or no unified among themselves. In the absence of spare parts and appropriate maintenance, they turn into disposable.
