MOSCOW, May 22/ Radio Sputnik. The growth of military activity in the Arctic region cannot but worry Russia, Nikolai Korchunov, Ambassador-at-Large of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Chairman of the Committee of Senior Officials of the Arctic Council, told RIA Novosti.
The Ambassador noted that foreign military activity in the region cannot but cause concern to Moscow.
Discussions about the possible militarization of the Arctic intensified after Finland and Sweden announced their intention to join NATO after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine.
The alliance has faced an obstacle from Turkey, which is not satisfied with the deployment of those organizations that Ankara considers terrorist on the territory of the countries.
Earlier, Sputnik radio told how the United States wants to expand its military presence in the Arctic.
