As stated in the official statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry, our country is terminating membership in the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS). At the same time, the ministry clarified that such a step would not affect Russia's presence in the region. Moscow still intends to cooperate with all countries pursuing a responsible policy in the Baltic, to protect the interests of compatriots.
— the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs says.
Such actions of our country are caused by the unfriendly behavior of other states that are members of the CBSS. In particular, not only Russia is trying in every possible way to remove from the work and projects of the Council. Also, at the initiative of Western participants, Belarus' participation in the CBSS as an observer has been suspended. As stated on Smolenskaya Square, Western countries "monopolized the Council for their opportunistic purposes, are making plans to set up its work to the detriment of Russian interests." Legal and financial discrimination against Russia continues at the international level.
— it is reported in the press release of the ministry.
Under the circumstances, the Council of the Baltic Sea States has essentially turned into another platform for lynching Russia and "Western narcissism." The trend of excluding our country from international institutions harms interethnic cooperation and in the future will lead to isolation and increased confrontation not only in the political, but also in the economic sphere in many regions of the world. However, it seems that this does not frighten Western countries at all, who are ready to do anything to achieve the increasingly mythical goals of "world hegemony and punishment" of Russia.
The regional intergovernmental organization Council of the Baltic Sea States was established in 1992. The CBSS consisted of 11 permanent member States, the European Union and 11 countries as observers. In March of this year, the membership of Russia and Belarus in the CBSS was suspended.
