As the Rostec State Corporation reported on May 11, 2022, Rostec United Engine Corporation (UEC) JSC successfully completed the program of bench tests of the first prototype of the promising PD-8 engine. The operability of the engine and its systems, the main parameters laid down in the terms of reference, the correctness of design decisions have been confirmed.

During the multi-stage tests, the UEC specialists debugged the automatic control systems and stabilized the engine start with access to the "small gas". The engineers carried out the required number of launches to obtain the main parameters of the engine in all its operating modes, from "low gas" to "maximum take-off" mode.
"The completion of bench tests of the first prototype PD-8 is the most important stage in the development of a new Russian engine for civil aviation, primarily for the import-substituted Superjet 100. Further tests of individual engine components on autonomous installations are to be carried out. It is also planned to test the engine as part of the Il-76LL flying laboratory and a large complex of engineering calculations. All this is included in the complex of works to confirm the characteristics of the pilot plant to the requirements of the PD-8 engine certification basis," said Vladimir Artyakov, First Deputy General Director of Rostec State Corporation.
The PD-8 dual-circuit turbofan engine, which will be used on the SSJ-NEW import-substituted passenger aircraft and the Be-200 amphibious aircraft, is being created using the latest Russian materials and advanced technologies, including 3D printing. A wide cooperation of UEC enterprises is involved in the work, the experience of creating the PD-14 engine is actively used.
"The test program included measurements of parameters to assess the temperature condition, strength and vibration resistance of engine parts and assemblies during operation. Its air, oil and fuel systems were checked. Data on the condition of parts and assemblies of the PD-8 prototype engine were taken during tests using 500 special sensors. The data obtained with their help are subject to further analysis to assess the operability of the main nodes and systems," said Yuri Shmotin, General Designer of UEC JSC.
On the part of bmpd, we recall that a promising commercial dual-circuit turbojet engine PD-8 with a take-off thrust in the basic version of 7.9 tons is being created with the head role of JSC UEC-Aviadvigatel (Perm, as part of the UEC) using developments on the PD-14 engine (with a take-off thrust of 14 tons). The PD-8 engine should have a smaller diameter and weight than the PD-14, and have a single-stage low-pressure axial compressor and fewer stages in a low-pressure turbine. In the future, based on the PD-8, it is possible to create a whole line of engines.
The PD-8 engine is being created for a new maximally "import-substituted" modification of the SSJ100 regional aircraft, called SSJ-NEW. It is also possible to replace the PD-8 engine with the engines of the D-436 family of Zaporozhye production, in particular, on the Be-200 amphibious aircraft. Tests of the PD-8 engine gas generator were started in 2021, bench tests of the first prototype of the PD-8 engine were started in early 2022, the certification of the engine by Rosaviation is scheduled for 2023.
