Russian anti-aircraft gunners with the help of Buk-M3 anti-aircraft missile systems provide air cover during a special operation to protect Donbass. This was announced on April 30 by the Ministry of Defense of Russia.
"Calculations of the anti-aircraft missile brigade of the Central Military District, armed with the latest Buk—M3 complexes, provide reliable air cover for positions and facilities of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation performing tasks within the framework of a special military operation in Ukraine," the military department said in a statement.
As explained in the Ministry, military personnel detect, escort and destroy enemy air objects, including Tochka-U missiles.
According to the Ministry of Defense, on the night of April 29, the calculation of the Buk air defense system discovered and destroyed an unmanned aerial vehicle of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which was conducting reconnaissance.
"We are working on the Buk-M3 anti—aircraft missile system, specifically this is a guidance illumination locator, two launchers are connected to it, which allow firing and destroying all types of targets that the enemy side has," Anton, the commander of the anti-aircraft missile battery, said.
He also added that the capabilities of the radar station, which is part of the complex, make it possible to detect and accompany inconspicuous objects in a timely manner, destroy them at a safe distance from the positions of their own troops.
On April 29, the official representative of the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, Major General Igor Konashenkov, said that Russian aviation destroyed 38 military facilities of Ukraine with precision missiles during the day. Among them are 20 platoon strongholds, 11 areas of concentration of manpower and military equipment, a fuel depot near the settlement of Volnoye Pole, a radar station in the Pecheneg area, the Major general said.
Earlier in the day, Konashenkov said that Russian aviation destroyed the production buildings of the Artyom rocket and space industry enterprise in Kiev. He also said that three traction power substations in the area of the Fastov, Krasnoselka and Polonnoye railway junctions were destroyed by high-precision long-range sea-based Kalibr missiles.
On February 24, Russia announced the start of a special operation to protect Donbass. As Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov clarified, the special operation pursues two goals — demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine. According to him, both of these aspects pose a threat to the Russian state and people.
The operation began against the background of the situation in Donbass that escalated in mid-February. The authorities of the DPR and LPR reported increased shelling by Ukrainian troops, announced the evacuation of civilians to the Russian Federation and asked for recognition of independence. On February 21, Russian President Vladimir Putin signed a corresponding decree.
