Yuri Nikolaevich Barmakov was born on January 7, 1932. Since 1955 he has been working at VNIIA, in 1987-2008 he served as director of the Institute. Since 2008 — Scientific director, since 2011 — First Deputy scientific director of VNIIA.
During his work, Barmakov carried out a large number of original developments, founded a scientific school in the field of creating nuclear weapons and their means of control. In 1968, the scientist was awarded the USSR State Prize (for the development and implementation of the first automated nuclear ammunition control system), and in 1983 - the Lenin Prize for the development of a nuclear munition for a strategic air-launched cruise missile.
The Dukhov VNIIA is one of the key enterprises of the Rosatom nuclear weapons complex. Rosatom, together with the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation and military units of nuclear support, guarantee the implementation of Russia's policy in the field of nuclear deterrence. The Rosatom nuclear weapons complex not only works to maintain the operability and modernization of previously created charges, but also ensures that charges with new qualitative characteristics are put on combat duty in conditions of nuclear-free tests.
The creation of a new generation of weapons capable of ensuring a strategic balance in the world for decades to come has become one of the successes of the current generation of Russian nuclear scientists, Putin noted earlier.
