Moscow. April 27. INTERFAX-AVN - Roscosmos is mass-producing new Sarmat intercontinental missiles, a total of 46 complexes are planned to be delivered to the troops, the head of the state corporation Dmitry Rogozin said.
"Everything is going according to plan, in principle. We plan to conduct flight design tests during this year. In parallel, we are already making serial missiles to equip the first regiment in the Krasnoyarsk Territory, this is the Uzhur Division. In total, we will have 46 Sarmat strategic combat complexes. That is, they will go to the mines where the Voivode is located," Rogozin said on the air of the Solovyov Live program.
On April 25, Rogozin announced that Roscosmos was almost ready for serial production of the Sarmat.
"Roscosmos enterprises have started preparing the next flight design tests of the Sarmat strategic ICBM. Their dates will be determined this week. Preparations for the serial production of this heavy ICBM are also being completed," he said.
On April 20, 2022, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the first test launch of a stationary-based Sarmat ICBM from the Plesetsk cosmodrome. According to the ministry, the launch tasks were completed in full, the design characteristics of the rocket were confirmed at all stages of its flight. The training combat units arrived in a given area at the Kura training ground on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
The Sarmat rocket will be put into service no later than the autumn of 2022, the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said on April 23.
"The new complex has the highest tactical and technical characteristics and is able to overcome all modern means of missile defense. It has no analogues in the world and will not be for a long time," Russian President Vladimir Putin said on April 20 after watching the successful test launch of the Sarmat rocket via video link.
"This truly unique weapon will strengthen the combat potential of our armed forces, reliably ensure Russia's security from external threats and make those who, in the heat of frenzied aggressive rhetoric, are trying to threaten our country think," Putin said at the time.
On April 20, commenting on the first test launch of the Sarmat, Rogozin called it a "gift from NATO."
It was reported that the Sarmat missiles will be mass-produced at the Krasmash plant (Krasnoyarsk, Roscosmos Corporation).
ICBM RS-28 "Sarmat" will replace the world's most powerful strategic mine-based missile RS-20V "Voevoda" (according to NATO classification - SS-18 "Satan") in the Uzhurskaya (Krasnoyarsk Territory) and Dombarovskaya (Orenburg region) divisions of the RVSN.
In the future, Sarmat missiles will become carriers of the Avangard hypersonic gliding cruise warheads, developing a speed of about Mach 27 (Mach is the speed of sound). Currently, Avangard combat units are installed on UR-100N UTTH intercontinental ballistic missiles.
