TSAMTO, April 26. The US State Department has approved the potential supply of various Soviet-style ammunition to Ukraine as part of the Foreign Military Sales program. The total cost of delivery may amount to $ 165 million.
The DoD Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) notified Congress of the planned sale on April 24.
The Government of Ukraine has asked the United States about the possibility of selling various shells and non-standard Soviet-style ammunition for NATO, including, among other things: 152-mm shots for the towed 2A36 Hyacinth cannon, 152-mm shots for the D-20 howitzer cannon, VOG-17 grenades for the AGS-17 automatic grenade launcher, 120-mm mortar mines (not of the NATO sample), 122-mm shots for SG 2S1 "Carnation", rockets for BM-21 "Grad", 300-mm rockets for MLRS "Smerch", VOG-25 grenades for the GP-25 grenade launcher, 82-mm mortar mines, 125-mm high-explosive fragmentation ammunition for the T-72 tank, 152-mm shots for SG 2A65 "Msta".
The request also includes delivery and other relevant elements of material support and program support.
The US Secretary of State presented a detailed justification that there is an emergency situation that requires the immediate sale of the above-mentioned defense products and services to Ukraine. Thus, the requirements for consideration of the sale by Congress in accordance with section 36 (b) of the "Arms Export Control Act", as amended, are canceled.
As stated, this sale is in line with the interests of US foreign policy and national security and will improve the security of the partner country in Europe.
The notification says that the sale of the requested ammunition will increase Ukraine's capabilities to counter existing and future threats by maintaining the combat readiness of its armed forces.
It is noted that the provision of non-standard and outdated Warsaw Pact ammunition will allow the Armed Forces of Ukraine to strengthen national defense. These ammunition are already in service with the Armed Forces of Ukraine, so their adoption will not cause difficulties.
The general contractor(s) will be selected (selected) after the conclusion of the contract(s).
The notice of sale is published in accordance with the requirements of American law. The description and value of the sale reflect the highest estimates based on the initial requirements. The actual purchase price may be lower, depending on the final requirements, financial capabilities and signed purchase and sale agreements, if they are concluded.
