Ust-Katavsky Car Building Plant, part of Roscosmos, will begin assembling the first unmanned tram at the end of 2022. This was announced on Friday, April 15, by the general director of the company Roman Novikov.
"The assembly of the first unmanned tram is scheduled to begin at the end of the year," TASS quoted him as saying.
Earlier, on January 8, the head of the UKVZ announced plans to develop a high-speed tram that will be used to transport employees of the Vostochny cosmodrome. The tram will be divided into three sections, while five-section trams will be used in the Tsiolkovsky district and at the cosmodrome.
On January 4, 2021, Novikov confirmed that UKVZ intends to assemble an unmanned tram in 2022, then its tests will follow.
On October 17, 2020, UKVZ began assembling a five-section tram, which will be made according to the principle of the Lego constructor. According to Konstantin Kolomiets, Deputy Chief designer for civil products of the experimental design department of the UKVZ, according to this principle, it is possible to assemble not only a five-section, but also a three- or four-section tram. He also said that a car with a completely low floor was assembled by more than 50%.
On September 19, 2020, it became known about plans to test an unmanned tram in Moscow. According to the head of the metropolitan Department of Transport Maxim Liksutov, the city government will conduct testing together with Yandex.
It is noted that drones will help reduce congestion and improve road safety. In particular, they eliminate the human factor when driving, and this will prevent more than 70% of accidents.
In 2019, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, announced the creation of the first medical unmanned tram for Russian regions. Then he noted that the assembly of the pilot copy had already begun.
The head of the state corporation stressed that the new tram will be cheaper than Russian-made analogues on the market. It will also be produced in a variant with a car driver. In such a train consisting of two or three cars, anyone will be able to undergo a minimal medical examination.
