Moscow. April 24. INTERFAX-AVN - The new Sarmat strategic missile will guarantee Russia's security in the next 30-40 years, the US missile defense system is powerless against it, the head of Roscosmos Dmitry Rogozin said.
"We are not talking in vain, there is no bragging here, we really understand that for 30-35-40 years ahead, Sarmat will provide the basis for our security," Rogozin said on Channel One on Sunday.
"The United States will not be able to do anything in the coming decades that could call into question our capabilities," Rogozin said.
"Modern and even promising missile defense systems of the United States will not have time to react to the entry of the Sarmat into space. And it is almost impossible to catch him further. This is a missile that has unique characteristics of invulnerability," Rogozin said.
On April 20, 2022, the Russian Defense Ministry announced the first test launch of the Sarmat ICBM stationary from the Plesetsk cosmodrome.
"Sarmat, in comparison with other complexes - both Russian and American, and which other countries have - is the largest, most powerful missile of global range, which carries such power that it is capable - these are not the words of duty - to stop any aggressor," Rogozin said.
On April 20, commenting on the first test launch of the Sarmat, Rogozin called it a "gift from NATO."
The Sarmat missile can be equipped with several Avangard hypersonic combat units, Commander of the Strategic Missile Forces of the Russian Federation Sergey Karakayev said on the Vesti Nedelya program on the Rossiya-1 TV channel (VGTRK) on Sunday.
It was reported that the Sarmat missiles will be mass-produced at the Krasmash plant (Krasnoyarsk, Roscosmos Corporation).
It was reported that the RS-28 Sarmat ICBM will replace the most powerful mine-based strategic missile in the world, the RS-20V Voevoda (according to the NATO classification - SS-18 Satan). in the Uzhurskaya (Krasnoyarsk Territory) and Dombarovskaya (Orenburg region) divisions of the RVSN.
It was officially reported that the Sarmat missiles in the future will become carriers of the Avangard hypersonic gliding cruise warheads developing a speed of about Mach 27 (Mach is the speed of sound). Currently, Avangard combat units are installed on UR-100N UTTH intercontinental ballistic missiles.
The extension by Moscow and Washington of the Strategic Offensive Arms Reduction treaty for five years does not prevent the deployment of new Russian strategic missile systems Avangard and Sarmat, the commander of the Strategic Missile Forces Sergei Karakaev said last December.
