Military surgeons on Friday, April 22, told Izvestia correspondent Yaroslav Bogat about the difficulties they encountered during their work when fragments from the Ukrainian "Point-U" hit the mobile hospital.
During the most difficult operation, the fragment broke the oxygen equipment, which made it much more difficult to save the patient's life. The doctors took the main blow from the damaging elements.
According to the commander of the special purpose medical detachment Marat Khatagov, he and many of his subordinates were concussed that day.
"There were cars that caught fire, one of the cars. There were refrigerators with blood in it. And caught fire. My doctor, who is responsible for the blood, and the personnel, risking their lives, got this blood," he said.
30-40 minutes after the start of the operation, a second missile strike was announced on the radio, but the doctors decided to stay at their workplaces and provide medical assistance.
The surgeon Roman Nezhivov told exactly how the medical team worked. His team had to operate on a partner, also a surgeon, who was hit in the chest by a fragment.
"The shelling was carried out, all surgeons and all nurses were in bulletproof vests, complex surgical interventions were performed, a double psychological load, the shelling and the operation itself," he recalls. Then we managed to save everyone.
However, doctors have a lot of work even when no one is brought from the front line. Medics are helping local residents and wounded Ukrainian prisoners. The latter are very surprised by this behavior of Russian specialists.
"There were very heavy ones whose thoughts did not slip through, but then they came to their senses and were surprised that they were on the operating table, came out of anesthesia, they were operated on, and they saved them alive. They were transfused blood. They were surprised and therefore they were hurt to tears," Khatagov stressed.
At the moment, the hospital has been relocated, as the Ukrainian military periodically fire at objects with the red cross.
"Recently, three missiles that were flying at us were shot down. Well, it happens, yes, but it becomes less frequent," explained the head of the group of the Department of anesthesiology and resuscitation of the special purpose medical detachment Vitaly Nazarko.
But even at such moments, doctors continue to fulfill their medical duty.
Earlier, on April 19, Yuri Andrienko, a sailor of the 36th Marine Brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, expressed surprise at the human attitude in captivity. He also thanked the Russian doctors for their help. Another captured Marine, Yuri Podavansky, he was surprised that the doctors treated him very well. He noted that the Ukrainian wounded lie on a par with the Russian.
On February 24, Russia launched an operation to protect civilians in the Donbas. Moscow explained that the tasks of the special operation include the demilitarization and denazification of Ukraine, which is necessary to ensure Russia's security. The decision was made against the background of aggravation in the region as a result of shelling by the Ukrainian military. The authorities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People's Republics announced the evacuation of residents to the Russian Federation, and on February 21, the Russian leader signed a decree recognizing the independence of the DPR and LPR.
