A video of the test launch of the new Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile has been published.
The footage shows how the Sarmat launches from an underground mine, flames escape from its engines, and smoke clouds rise around the rocket. After that, the rocket quickly picks up speed and disappears into the clouds.
The successful testing of a new intercontinental ballistic missile earlier on Wednesday, April 20, was reported by the Russian Defense Ministry. The launch took place at 15:12 Moscow time from the Plesetsk cosmodrome in the Arkhangelsk region from a mine launcher.
According to the representatives of the department, the tasks set before the start were successfully completed in full.
After watching the rocket launch via video link, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the Sarmat is capable of overcoming all modern means of missile defense, there are no analogues to it.
"The new complex has the highest tactical and technical characteristics and is able to overcome all modern means of missile defense. It has no analogues in the world and will not be for a long time," the head of state said.
He expressed confidence that the new weapon will strengthen the combat potential of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, as well as reliably ensure Russia's security from external threats.
This launch was the first in a series of state testing programs, after which the Sarmat will enter service with the Strategic Missile Forces. The main missile regiment in the Uzhursky missile compound in the Krasnoyarsk Territory is already being prepared for rearmament with a new missile system.
The Sarmat ICBM was developed at the Makeev State Missile Center. According to experts, the Sarmat can deliver a separable head unit weighing up to 10 tons to anywhere in the world, both through the North and South Pole. The missile can deliver warheads along trajectories that significantly complicate their destruction even by promising missile defense systems.
