MOSCOW, April 20/ Sputnik Radio. At the Plesetsk cosmodrome, a successful launch of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile was carried out from a mine installation as part of state tests, the Russian Defense Ministry said. This is reported by RIA Novosti.
The ministry added that all design characteristics were confirmed at all stages of the Sarmat flight.
Footage of the successful launch was published in the Telegram channel of RIA Novosti.
Training combat units arrived in a given area in Kamchatka.
Flight tests of a promising heavy-class rocket with a separable head made it possible to assess the correctness of the schematic design and technical solutions laid down in the development of the Sarmat complex, the ministry noted.
The missile has expanded the range of combat equipment both in terms of the number of blocks and types, including hypersound.
The Defense Ministry also noted that this weapon "is capable of hitting targets at long ranges using various flight paths."
In addition, as the ministry stressed, the Sarmat missile has "unique characteristics that allow it to reliably overcome any existing and promising missile defense systems."
The successful launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile on Sputnik radio was evaluated by a military expertYuri Knutov:
The Sarmat is the most powerful missile with the largest target range in the world, which will significantly strengthen the combat power of the Russian armed forces, the Russian Defense Ministry concluded.
It is expected that the Sarmat (RS-28) will replace the world's heaviest strategic missile Voevoda (according to the NATO classification – Satan, RS-20B).
Development work on the new project began in 2011. The missile will be able to attack targets through both the North and South Poles.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported that the press secretary of the Russian leader Dmitry Peskov revealed details of President Vladimir Putin's participation in the launch of the launch vehicle from Vostochny.
