The launch of the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile is the first in the program of state tests. This was reported in the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.
They noted that the flight tests made it possible to assess the correctness of the schematic design and technical solutions that were laid down when creating the Sarmat missile system. After the completion of the test program of this promising heavy-class missile with a separable head, the Sarmat complex will enter service with the Strategic Missile Forces.
The military department said that work is already underway to prepare the main missile regiment for rearmament with a new missile system. They are held at the Uzhursky missile compound in the Krasnoyarsk Territory. The promising Sarmat missile system will replace the Voivode.
The Ministry of Defense clarified that "Sarmat" is a product exclusively of Russian industrial cooperation. "Thanks to the energy-mass characteristics of the missile, the range of its combat equipment has expanded. This happened both in terms of the number of combat units and types, including planning hypersonic units," the military department stressed.
"Sarmat" is capable of hitting targets at long ranges using various flight paths. The missile has unique characteristics that allow it to reliably overcome any existing and promising missile defense systems.
The Sarmat ICBM is the most powerful missile with the largest target range in the world. This missile will significantly strengthen the combat power of Russia's strategic nuclear forces, the Defense Ministry stressed.
