The operator of the Russian ATGM "Sturm-S" single-handedly stopped a reinforced platoon of the AFU.
In the TG channel of the military commander of the VGTRK TV channel Yevgeny Poddubny, the story of the operator of the self-propelled ATGM "Sturm-S", who alone was able to defeat the reinforced platoon of the AFU, was published. According to him, not far from the village of Hrushevakha (Kharkiv region), our engineering troops were building a crossing, and he was providing their protection. At some point, I noticed a reinforced platoon of the APU. There was a tank, three IFVs and a KAMAZ in the column. The first shot the operator hit the tank, which exploded ammunition. Then he destroyed KAMAZ and BMP. In total, four hits were recorded.
The story was accompanied by a video demonstrating the work of the very ATGM "Sturm-S. This is a unique Soviet self-propelled complex still in service with our army. It was developed in the 1970s by the legendary designer-gunsmith Sergei Invincible. He can be called the father of all Soviet ATGMS - "Baby" and "Bumblebee" are also the brainchild of Sergei Pavlovich. He also created the Strela and Igla MANPADS.
Sergei Invincible armed the Sturm complex with the world's first supersonic ATGM - 9M114 Cocoon. And the ATGM itself can be called the forerunner of the Russian Terminator BMPT. It became the first multi-purpose vehicle in the Soviet Union capable of destroying not only tanks and armored vehicles, but also low-flying air targets, enemy manpower, and field fortifications.
In 1996, the Cocoon was replaced by a more advanced Ataka missile.
The ATGM is equipped with a semi-automatic, radio command guidance system with an infrared tracking signal. The supersonic speed of the rocket makes it invulnerable to radio interference. In addition, a special "Dust" mode allows it to change the flight path. At the initial segment, the ATGM flies above the line of sight, and when 500-700 meters remain to the target, the ATGM decreases.
Unlike the earlier self-propelled ATGM "Competition", the MT-LB tracked chassis was chosen as the base for the "Assault". This made the car more passable, gave additional volume for the retractable launcher.
It is arranged in such a way - while the "Assault-C" is on the march, the PU with twelve launch containers is hidden inside the hull. And when it is necessary to fire, the PU captures the container and goes into combat position. After starting, the container is thrown aside. The installation is recharged automatically. This process takes less time than the ATGM flight to the target takes.
"Sturm-S" boasts a reliable and comprehensive protection system, which, in addition to armor, includes a chemical and radiation reconnaissance device, a filter ventilation unit, as well as a housing sealing device.
With an impressive mass of 12.3 tons, the ATGM is capable of accelerating along the highway up to 70 kilometers per hour.
"Sturm-S" went through the Afghan War and Chechnya, where it proved itself well. It is clear that it was not necessary to resist the tanks there. Other skills of the universal complex came in handy. Especially the ability to accurately hit small targets at a great distance. For example, embrasures, caves and well-fortified firing points.
