Work will begin after the protection of the draft project
Moscow. April 8. INTERFAX - The Supervisory Board of Roscosmos has decided to proceed with the development and creation of modules of the new Russian orbital station after the protection of the draft design, Roscosmos reported.
"The Nabsovet heard reports on the prospects for further use of the International Space Station and the creation of the Russian Orbital Service Station (ROSS), as well as on the construction of the National Space Center in Moscow. Based on the results of the discussion, it was decided to proceed with the development of design documentation and the creation of its modules after the defense of the ROSS draft design," the state corporation said in a statement.
The state Corporation also reported that the Supervisory Board agreed on the appointment of Anton Lobanov as the General Director of the Scientific and Production Corporation "Space Monitoring Systems, Information Management and Electromechanical Complexes" named after A.G.Iosifyan (JSC "Corporation "VNIIEM") and Igor Maltsev as the general director of the "Scientific and Production Center of Automation and Instrumentation named after Academician N.A. Pilyugina" (NPCAP).
In addition, the Chairman of the Supervisory Board, Yuri Borisov, noted the principled state and civil position of Roscosmos in the conditions of sanctions pressure on the country.
On February 26, the head of Roscosmos, Dmitry Rogozin, announced that a decision on the creation of the station would be made after the completion of the preliminary design.
Against the background of the aggravation of Russian-American relations due to the conflict in Ukraine, Rogozin said that further continuation of cooperation is possible only if sanctions are lifted from the Russian space industry. On April 2, Rogozin said that the state corporation would prepare its proposals to the country's leadership on the timing of the termination of Russia's participation in the ISS project.
"The final decision on ROSS, with which we associate the future of Russian manned cosmonautics, including as a transit point on the way to the Moon, will be made after the completion of the preliminary design of the station," Rogozin said in an interview with the Russian Space magazine.
As reported, Russia is considering the possibility of creating a new national station, which will replace the ISS. It is assumed that the station will be in a high-latitude orbit with an inclination of 97-98 degrees, where there is an increased level of radiation. Because of this, it is proposed to make it visited, and not permanently inhabited.
On November 9, 2021, the executive director of Roscosmos for manned programs, Sergey Krikalev, announced that the state corporation was considering several options for creating a Russian orbital station, including using the Russian segment of the ISS.
"Different scenarios are possible, we have just those studies and those preliminary projects that should be done, they should consider different options, including the option of using the current station to create a new generation station," Krikalev said at a scientific and technical conference of scientists and specialists of RSC Energia.
On August 23, 2021, Rogozin told Interfax that the decision to include the modules of the Russian segment of the ISS in the new station will be made after the development of a preliminary design.
As Rogozin reported earlier, the scientific and technical council of the state corporation should decide how the appearance of the new Russian orbital station will be formed. "Either by increasing the Russian segment and the subsequent possible separation or a high-latitude station," Rogozin noted.
On November 17, 2021, the executive director of Roscosmos for promising projects and science, Alexander Bloshenko, told Interfax that the state corporation doubts the feasibility of creating a new station based on the existing Russian segment of the ISS, but experts should give an exact answer.
According to him, the development of the draft design of the new Russian orbital station will begin in 2022, it will take about a year and a half.
Russia, as reported, has decided to build its own orbital station, an exit from the ISS project is being considered, and this is due to the deterioration of the technical condition of the Russian segment of the station.
The head of Roscosmos reported that about 80% of the equipment of the Russian segment of the ISS has exhausted its resource and the cost of its maintenance after 2025 will be comparable to the cost of creating a new station.
