At the last Vertical Flight Society H2 Aero seminar, Hyundai presented its plans for the development of electric aviation in the near future. They emphasized that they already have a run-in technology of hydrogen power plants for vehicles. You just need to modify it and install it on aircraft.
Hyundai has created the Supernal brand to develop flying electric vehicles. It is assumed that the first model will be a device from the eVTOL category, an analogue of an air taxi. Its maximum flight range will be 120 km, because there are no cities in the world with a longer length. But this electric plane will not fly over the cities themselves, due to security reasons. It is a means of moving from the suburbs to the outskirts or between separate industrial areas of a locality.
Supernal Device
The second model belongs to the class of eSTOL – electric aircraft devices not with vertical take-off, but with a short take-off, like aircraft. It will take off and land at stationary airfields, the flight range will be from 200 to 1000 km. In fact, it is an alternative means for regional air transportation – environmentally friendly and advanced. Supernal eVTOL can be put into commercial operation by 2028, and Supernal eSTOL — by 2030. However, right now Hyundai has another concern – by the time the cars enter the market, it is necessary to prepare the infrastructure for their use. For this purpose, the presentation was arranged, the company is looking for partners to create appropriate facilities in different countries.
