Washington. April, 4. INTERFAX - A squadron of American fighter-bombers F/A-18C Hornet of the Marine Corps has arrived at the air base in the Polish city of Lask, the Command of the US Air Force in Europe reported on Monday.
Fighters from the 2nd Marine Corps Air Wing were transferred to Poland from the continental United States from Beaufort Air Base (South Carolina). KC-130J Hercules tanker planes also arrived there.
"Sending (fighters) to Eastern Europe is aimed at supporting NATO's collective defense," the message says.
In addition, air control units of the Marine Corps aviation operations were stationed in Lithuania.
"The rapid redeployment of US Marine forces will immediately strengthen the deterrent and defensive positions on the eastern flank of NATO. This deployment was carried out in full coordination with the host countries and military authorities, and although it is temporary in nature, it represents reasonable measures to increase readiness and strengthen the collective defense of Eastern Europe during this period of uncertainty," the US military said.
As reported by the US Air Force Command in Europe, back in February, the United States sent a group of F-15 Eagles fighter jets to Poland "to strengthen NATO's collective defense."
"The transfer of American fighters to the Lask Air Base in Poland is aimed at strengthening NATO's collective defense capabilities and to support the alliance's mission to patrol the airspace," the message said.
