Izvestia: the technical divorce of the national segments of the ISS can be carried out at least a year in advance
If necessary, the technical separation of the national segments of the International Space Station (ISS) can be carried out at least in one year, the head of the Institute of Space Policy Ivan Moiseev told Izvestia.
"To make a technical divorce of the Russian and American segments of the ISS is a complicated and not fast thing. This is how the segments are undocked from each other. Such a divorce requires at least a year, if at all. NASA cannot order us to undock, they can only do it themselves," the expert said.
In his opinion, the program of cross-flights - the exchange of crew members between American and Russian spacecraft - will be suspended or even closed.
In February, NASA announced that it would continue to cooperate with Roscosmos on the ISS, since "new export control measures allow the United States and Russia to continue cooperation in the civilian space field."
Earlier, US President Joe Biden promised to impose sanctions against the Russian space program during his address. In response, Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin said that the restrictions announced by the head of the United States are "Alzheimer's sanctions."
