Dubai. March 1st. INTERFAX - Iran believes that efforts to resume the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) on the Iranian nuclear program can be crowned with success if the United States makes a political decision to meet the remaining demands of Tehran, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Majid Khatibzadeh said.
"It is possible to reach a good deal," he said at a briefing, noting that "unfortunately, the Western parties and the United States have not yet made their political decisions on a number of outstanding issues."
According to him, these are the lifting of anti-Iranian sanctions, guarantees that Washington will not withdraw from the deal again, and the removal of some political claims regarding Iran's peaceful nuclear program.
On Tuesday, Khatibzadeh warned on Twitter: "Iran is ready, but will not wait forever."
Iran and the "six" international mediators (the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany) concluded the JCPOA on the Iranian nuclear program in 2015. It provided for the restriction of Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for the lifting of international and unilateral anti-Iranian sanctions.
Former US President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew from the JCPOA in 2018 and resumed anti-Iranian sanctions, which prompted Tehran to gradually abandon compliance with some of the terms of the deal.
Under President Joe Biden, the United States expressed its readiness to restore the JCPOA.
